Database Administrator

The Technology Department, reporting to the CEO, delivers secure, scalable digital tools, software services, and infrastructure across all business units. Agile development teams align with specific business areas, while other teams handle enterprise-wide IT operations, support, security, and architecture.
The Data & AI team drives productivity, compliance, and insights by leveraging a robust Data Lakehouse, decentralizing data access, improving client experiences, promoting data-driven practices, and ensuring efficient, auditable use of data in line with commercial terms.
Role Summary
The DBA supports the resilience, performance, and operational integrity of Marex’s multi-platform database estate. Based in Singapore and reporting to the DBA Manager in London, the role is responsible for the administration, optimisation, and lifecycle management of databases that underpin critical systems.
Working as part of a globally distributed DBA team, the individual will deliver high‑quality database support across Development, UAT, and Production environments.
A key focus of the role is performance tuning and diagnosis, optimising SQL execution paths, managing capacity, and ensuring high‑availability configurations operate effectively in a 24/7 environment.
The role also contributes to maintenance, patching, upgrades, automation, and cross‑platform initiatives across database technologies, helping to ensure consistency, reliability, and alignment to best practices across the group.

Overall Responsibilities
- Administer Oracle Exadata Cloud Service on Dedicated Infrastructure within Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
- Administer, configure, and maintain databases supporting critical operational systems.
- Deliver patching, upgrades, and security hardening in line with internal standards and regulatory expectations.
- Provide L2/L3 support for production incidents, performing root cause analysis and driving permanent remediation.
- Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and application support teams across EMEA/APAC to ensure reliable database services.
- Contribute to the uplift and maintenance of database monitoring, automation, and observability tooling.
- Support initiatives across other RDBMS platforms (e.g. SQL Server, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL) as required.
- Produce and maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and architectural artefacts.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, change management processes, and all applicable SOX control objectives.

Skills and Experience
Required
- Experience of Oracle Exadata and the Maximum Availability Architecture including Oracle RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, and related tools.
- Strong experience as an Oracle DBA in mission‑critical production environments.
- Deep expertise in Oracle performance tuning (SQL tuning, AWR/ASH/ADDM analysis, optimizer behaviour).
- Proven experience working in a regulated environment with understanding of associated risk and compliance requirements.
- Hands‑on experience with backup/recovery, failover, patching, and upgrades.
- Comfort working as part of a global follow‑the‑sun support model.
- Experience with Linux‑based environments and shell scripting. Experience working in a regulated environment and knowledge of the risk and compliance requirements associated with this.
Preferred
- Experience of OCI database services and the features and functionality of each.
- Exposure to multiple database platforms (e.g. SQL Server, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
- Experience with automation (Terraform, Ansible, scripting) and monitoring tools (OCI Native and OEM).
- Familiarity with cloud database services (OCI, AWS, Azure) beneficial.
- Experience in financial services or other high‑availability, low‑latency environments.
