Marex Spectron brokers its first Irish power deal

July 7, 2019

Marex Spectron brokered its first Irish power deal on the 18 July for 5 MW with settlement in September 2019.

Irish power futures trade as financially settled contracts for difference (CfDs).

The recent acquisition of Energy Broking Ireland has added Irish gas and power to Marex Spectron’s gas and power product offering.

Martin Regan, Marex Spectron’s Head of Energy Sales, commented: “With well over 30 participants in the Irish power market, we are excited about developing this opportunity and growing the liquidity levels in the Irish electricity market.”

The Irish power market is an all-island market with total annual demand of circa 40 TWh. The power CfDs settle against the Day Ahead Market (DAM) prices published by the market operator.

Marex Spectron is offering the broking of Irish power products from day-ahead out to Calendar Year 2021 on a continuous trading basis during business hours. At this early stage, it is seeing most activity in the two front months and the two front quarters.
