Oxford Programme on the Sustainable Future of Capital-Intensive Industries
Marex is proud to be a founding sponsor of the Smith School’s multi-year programme to develop datasets and research to advance social objectives in capital-intensive industries.
Beginning in October 2019, Marex is a founding sponsor of the Oxford Programme on the Sustainable Future of Capital-Intensive Industries, a multi-year research programme at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, University of Oxford. Led by Doctor Atif Ansar, the programme looks at how capital-intensive industries such as mining, oil and gas, primary production, infrastructure and construction can transition to environmentally sustainable modes of production.
The programme will develop new global datasets and areas of research, including the impact of remote sensing, modularity, the Internet of Things, big data and artificial intelligence and the role commodity derivative markets play in advancing social objectives.
With commodities at the heart of Marex’s operations and the global economy, the partnership is a unique and valuable opportunity to develop responses to the challenges capital-intensive industries pose.
Our role in this project goes beyond financial support, with active involvement from members of the firm who will provide expertise and data across commodity, environmental and derivatives markets. We will also help in the analysis of large datasets – a core skill in our Nanolytics technology team.
