Purpose of Role:

The QA/BA (Quality Assurance/Business Analyst) role is responsible for the delivery of technology services to their aligned business stream, working with the Head of Global Payments Technology who has overall accountability.

The Technology Department delivers differentiation, scalability and security for the business. Reporting to the COO, Technology provides digital tools, software services and infrastructure globally to all business groups. Software development and support teams work in agile ‘streams’ aligned to specific business areas. Our other teams work enterprise-wide to provide critical services including our global service desk, network and system infrastructure, IT operations, security, enterprise architecture and design.

The Business Technology function ensures delivery of Technology services to each Marex business area. We partner with the business to optimize their technology stack, prioritize their strategic technology roadmap and drive their software delivery lifecycle. We define and agree change initiatives with the organisation’s business areas and then coordinate delivery against specific acceptance criteria. Each Business Technology team is aligned to one of Marex’s business divisions and works with a corresponding Development team and Application Support team. A global team of implementation resources coordinate and support the technology business streams with delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide and support strategic technological direction for your aligned business line.
  • Maintain alignment with the Technology Strategy and ensure the Marex Technology footprint is understood during change. Prioritise existing vendors and systems where appropriate.
  •  Innovate new solutions, ensuring the business is always one step ahead of the competition.
  • Contribute to the technical direction of the department. Research new concepts and technologies. Evaluate third party products and tools that are (or may be) used by the team.
  • Create initiatives and epics that capture business deliverables with an agreed set of Acceptance Criteria (the contract). Report on the priority/progress/effort/cost of these epics/projects.
  • Oversee projects to ensure they are run efficiently and delivered on time and on budget.
  • Prioritise and drive the business requirements. Give regular status updates.
  • Ensure delivered infrastructure and systems are of production quality and adequately documented for handover to the business and/or support functions.
  • Ensure delivered systems are secure, reliable and scale to meet the demands of a rapidly growing business.
  • Define and document end-to-end solution architecture for payment initiation, FX conversion, settlement, reconciliation, and tracking flows.
  • Design modular Java-based microservices to achieve business requirements
  • Architect cloud-native solutions using AWS services
  • Design data pipelines and integration architecture for ML-based components used in fraud detection, transaction scoring, or payment repair.
  • Ideate and conceptualize usage of ML, GenAI and other AI techniques to solve complex problems
  • Lead the selection process for various vendor solutions and SaaS platforms for common services
  • Ensure architecture adheres to PCI-DSS, SOC2, GDPR, and local financial regulations.
  • Apply secure-by-design principles, covering encryption, data masking, access control, and auditability.
  • Architect integrations with external systems like: Bank APIs for payout and collections, FX rate aggregators, SWIFT or other messaging protocols (ISO 20022)
  • Define canonical models and transformation strategies for internal service communication.
  • Partner with product, engineering, DevOps, and compliance teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Provide architectural governance across the SDLC and ensure architectural decisions align with business objectives
  •  Know our products by verifying that all product pieces and components are functioning and meets quality standards.
  • Detect and investigate defects and liaise with developers through to resolution
  •  Writing, executing, and maintaining automation test scripts. Prioritise and plan testing activities, tighten quality
  • Support the QA team maintaining a wiki and helping to develop a comprehensive knowledge base of applications, known current and previous defects and testing procedures for those applications which we shared and used by QA.
  • Contributing to development standups and SCRUM ceremonies, working with developers to define testable acceptance criteria.
  • Liaising with stakeholders, assisting with requirements elicitation, and providing regular updates and product demonstrations.
  • Ensuring compliance with the company’s regulatory requirements under the SEC, FINRA, NFA, CFTC and other applicable exchanges.
  • Adhere to the operational risk framework for your role ensuring that all regulatory or company determined parameters are complied with.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 15 (fifteen)+ years in solution architecture, QA, BA or similar roles, with at least 5 (five)+ years as a solution architect.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architecture.
  • Proven architecture delivery in cross-border payments, remittances, FX trading, or banking systems.
  • Strong experience with AWS or Azure
  • Deep understanding of payment processing lifecycle, currency conversion, cutoff windows, and fund settlement workflows.
  • Proven experience and knowledge of FX trade types such as spot, forward, window forward, swap trades, FIX protocol and FIX engines, ERP integration, Embedded Payments, Bulk Payments, Stablecoin, Blockchain, Crypto
  • Familiarity with SWIFT, ISO 20022, ACH, SEPA, Fedwire, and regional payment rails.
  • Understanding of Nostro reconciliation, regulatory reporting, and payment exception handling.
  • Experience in blockchain-based payment platforms or stablecoin integration.
  • Exposure to real-time payment networks (e.g., UPI, PIX, Faster Payments).
  • Familiarity with orchestration engines like Netflix Conductor or Temporal.
  • Extensive knowledge of vendor systems used in aligned business area and vendor managemen
  •  Stakeholder management, business analysis and excellent communication skills
  • Delivery focussed, displaying entrepreneurial and leadership skills.

  • JIRA, XRAY, WIKI, Bitbucket cloud, AWS, Splunk all beneficial.
  • Experience with using SQL Management Studio and MongoDB to query databases, as well as using data for test purposes.
  •  Understanding of software diagnostic tools and testing methods (automation, smoke, functionality, usability, performance, regression, and user acceptance).
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, regulated, and evolving environment

  • Experience of Trading Technologies, Pricing, Risk and algo trading.
  • Agile and scrum development methodologies.
  • Product development experience.
  • Microsoft Technologies, Cloud services, hosting and deployment.
  • Experience working closely with development teams and championing an automation-first and shift-left
  • Experience working in a regulated environment and knowledge of the risk and compliance requirements associated with this.

Salary Range: $250,000 to $300,000 per year and eligible for discretionary bonus.
