Purpose of Role:

The Payroll Accountant is responsible for preparing, generating, and accounting for payroll information including recording employee pay data, commissions, and benefits, ensuring the accuracy of all information and managing deadlines.

This individual will be interfacing the payroll information with the General Ledger. Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.

Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates. Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices. Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors. Identifies and recommends updates to payroll accounting software, systems, and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct monthly analytical review on legal entity expenses and related balance sheet accounts.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management reports.
  • Prepare, reconcile and challenge balance sheet accounts.

Monthly and Year End – Assist in all phases of the closing and reporting functions, including:

  • Analyze variances in expense statements and balance sheet accounts monthly.
  • Apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports.
  • Assist in year-end audits and manage ad-hoc inquiries from external auditors.

Miscellaneous Department Duties

  • Role model for demonstrating highest level standards of integrity and conduct and reflecting Company Values.
  • Engage in the development of an interface from ADP to the GL.
  • Managing and accounting for the ADP data for GL Entries
  • Preparation of manual payment wires
  • Manage the posting of the bi-monthly payroll journals.
  • Reconciliation of the Salary data to the GL
  • Explanation of Salary and Benefit related month over month variances.
  • Manage the Employee Dimension file.
  • Ensure Employee Cost Codes have been applied properly.
  • Accounting for and reconciliation of the various benefit plans:
    • Life Insurance
    • Medical
    • Dental
    • Vision
    • HSA
    • FSA
    • Transit
  • Report any breaches of policy to Compliance to the CFO.
  • Understand and adhere to Compliance rules and how role relates to the regulatory framework.
  • Ensuring compliance with the company’s regulatory requirements under the FCA, NFA, AMF, AFM, MAS
  • Adhere to the operational risk framework for your role ensuring that all regulatory or company determined parameters are complied with.

Skills and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in accounting/related field -OR- Master’s in Accounting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word in automating tasks and organizing data for analytical purposes with pivot tables and charts;  advanced Microsoft Excel skills required
  • Experience in accounting or bookkeeping for at least 3 years
  • Experience with payroll systems (e.g. ADP or similar) for at least 3 years
  • Experience with general ledger accounting software for at least 3 years
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft general ledge
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Experience working in a regulated environment and knowledge of the risk and compliance requirements associated with this

Salary Range:    $33.65 to $38.46 per hour
