Purpose of Role:
Marex is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel who is primarily responsible for advising senior management on legal matters in financial services. The role works closely with compliance staff on projects relating to the operations of a multi-asset brokerage business, including a broker-dealer, FCM, registered swaps dealer, OTC energy brokering and others operating in North America.

The Legal Department supports functional areas across Marex with timely, focused, practical legal services.
Responsibilities:
- Drive compliance with laws and regulations related to a multi-asset class financial services brokerage firm in the US, including the development, implementation, interpretation, and maintenance of operational policies and procedures.
- Provide pragmatic advice and guidance on a variety of financial instruments including swaps related matters.
- Partner with Compliance to create practical, compliant policies and procedures.
- Partner with Client Services to create client facing documentation, including onboarding materials and client-facing agreements
- Effectively and regularly report status of areas of responsibility to relevant internal stakeholders.
- Monitor developments in swaps law areas in North America and proactively identify legal concepts the company needs to understand and apply into practice.
- Distil complex legal issues into workable frameworks or reference guides for Compliance, Client Services, front-end stakeholders and senior management.
- Work on special projects related to financial services law, which may include areas outside of North American jurisdiction. Collaborate on and contribute to other projects within the Legal Department as needed.
- Ensuring compliance with the company’s regulatory requirements under the SEC, FINRA, NFA, CFTC and other applicable exchanges.
- Adhere to the operational risk framework for your role ensuring that all regulatory or company determined parameters are complied with.

Skills & Experience
- JD/LLM from an accredited US law school and admission to a state bar.
- At least five to seven years’ (5-7 years) experience practicing primarily in the financial services legal environment covering US and Canada.
- Experience within broker-dealer, FCM (futures commission merchant), registered swaps dealer, OTC (over-the-counter) energy brokering and/or other financial services products operating in North America is required.
- Experience or exposure to the swaps transactions (Commodities, interested rates, FX, Structures, Total Return, Synthetic ETFs) would be highly preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working in a regulated environment and knowledge of the risk and compliance requirements associated with this.
