Lauren describes her experience of life as a graduate at Marex.
I graduated from Royal Holloway University of London in July 2025 with a BSc Management and Accounting and joined Marex in September on the 2-year Graduate programme. I had some previous corporate experience at another firm, but this was my first experience working for a firm like Marex.
I am based in the London office working as a Financial Crime Graduate Trainee, operating within the control and support function. My role can be really varied as I am able to get involved in a lot of different aspects relating to preventing and managing financial crime risks. This ranges from tackling money laundering and terrorism financing, to monitoring sanctions, screening business activities and curating international financial crime policies.
I start my day at 8:30 in the London office by catching up with emails and Teams messages in both my personal and group mailboxes. Given Marex’s rapid global expansion, staying connected with colleagues based internationally is essential. My days often include meetings with members of the Financial Crime Compliance team, manager/mentor meetings, and contributing to ongoing projects across various countries. My role primarily focuses on the policy and regulatory aspects of financial crime. Recently, I’ve been curating policies for Marex’s Abu Dhabi office, supporting their framework from a financial crime perspective which has been interesting. During my time at Marex, I have pursued professional qualifications from the ICA in Anti-Money Laundering and intend to progress to more advanced levels. These certifications have strengthened my ability to contribute effectively to the team by providing a solid foundation in an area I am passionate about – one that plays a critical role in safeguarding the firm.
