Sophie describes her experience of life as a graduate at Marex.
I’m originally from Edinburgh and this year I graduated from Durham University, where I studied Mathematics and Economics. I’ve always been interested in how quantitative skills can be applied to real-world financial markets, which is what drew me to the Sales & Trading scheme. Since joining the graduate programme nearly three months ago, I’ve enjoyed moving to London and socialising with the other graduates. Also, I’ve enjoyed getting hands-on experience in a fast-paced, client-focused environment and learning from such an experienced team.
I joined the Sales & Trading Graduate Programme in the Capital Markets division, and I work for Marex Prime Services. In this role, I collaborate with different teams across the business, which gives me great exposure to how the Prime Services offering operates end-to-end. I’m currently working towards my CISI qualifications and have passed my first exam. Once fully qualified, I’ll be able to provide more direct support to the Outsourced Trading team, which is an exciting next step.
Right now, there’s no such thing as a typical day, and that’s what makes it exciting! Every day is different because I’m learning so much and getting involved in a range of tasks across Prime Services. Some days I’m helping with client-related requests, other days I’m working on bigger projects that give me a deeper understanding of how the business operates and the services we offer. It’s a fast-paced environment, so I’m constantly picking up new skills and adapting quickly. I also make time to study for my CISI exams in addition to my day-to-day work, which keeps things challenging but rewarding!
What I love most about Marex is the variety and constant learning opportunities. Working with different people within Prime Services means I’m always picking up new skills and gaining insights into different areas of the business. The flat structure and collaborative culture really stand out. I enjoy coming to work because of the people, and it’s great to have easy access to senior colleagues who are always willing to speak to you and share their knowledge. I also thrive in the fast-paced environment, where every day brings something new and I get to learn from experienced professionals.
