Tell us a bit about your background:

Prior to joining Marex I spent 4 years at the University of Exeter studying economics, completing my undergraduate in 2023 before continuing for one more year to finish my MSc. Following that chapter, I was lucky enough to complete an internship with the company, where I spent 3 months within the Finance Group with the Investor Relations team. This acted as my first exposure to, not only the finance team at Marex, but the finance world as a whole. My time over the summer gave me a useful overview of how the finance teams operate together within Marex on top of the opportunity to learn how we engage with both new and existing investors throughout a quarter. It felt natural then to apply for a role on the finance graduate scheme which I began at the beginning of September.

What’s your role at Marex?

Graduate trainee, finance

Describe a typical day in your role:

As my first rotation within the finance department, I am sitting with Legal Entity Control, where we ensure the firm meets the financial reporting and control obligations of a global regulated group. The growing nature of the company means every day/week can vary, with the recent acquisition of Winterflood bringing new challenges that has meant myself and a couple others within the team have been spending time setting up and testing new business units as part of their integration. On a more regular day, my day-to-day responsibilities at the moment surround intercompany activities. These involve assisting with interest rate calculations and monitoring daily borrowing and repayments between these business units to reconcile any breaks in accounts because of these entities.
The ICAEW ACA qualifications also play a big part in the finance graduate scheme, so I have plenty of studying to look forward to as well.

What is your favourite thing about your role?

(Most of the time) How busy my role is. I rarely find myself with nothing to do which helps me feel like I’m adding value on a daily basis.
